Army expresses readiness to addressing security challenges in South-East
Ahead of the 2019 general elections, General Officer Commanding 82 division of the Nigerian Army Enugu, major general Emmanuel Kabuk has expressed the division’s readiness in ending existing and emerging security challenges within its area of operational jurisdiction.
Kabuk disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the army’s plan in achieving violent-free elections.
Reiterating the Nigerian army’s commitment towards ensuring peaceful environment in-line with the directive of the chief of army staff, the G.O.C 82 Division, Enugu, major general Emmanuel Kabuk said the division has intensified its operational conduct in checkmating security problems before, during the yuletide and most importantly during the 2019 general election.
According to him, the division would effectively cooperate with other security agencies in curbing security issues, calling on members of the public to report matters of security concerns to any security agency near them for quick action.
“The 82 Division, Nigerian Army is professionally prepared to decisively deal with the contemporary and emerging security challenges within its area of operational responsibility in tandem with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Vision which is –“To have a Professionally Responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional roles”.
“COAS has given clear directives to the GOCs to pass on to Formations and Units Commanders especially as it relates to the Nigerian Army (NA) preparations and eventual conduct off the 2019 General Elections in their respective AORs”.
Kabuk while assuring the army’s support in ensuring safety of lives and property devoid of molestation in South Eastern region, warned miscreants to desist from unlawful acts that do not promote harmony and safety of people.
He, therefore, charged journalists to always report threats to security to relevant security agencies as part of their contribution in fostering national security.
“Members of the public are hereby enjoyed to cooperate with the Nigerian Army and indeed all other security agencies in our concerted efforts to ensure effective provision off security in the entire region and any other area within 82 Division AOR. The public are further urged to report any suspicious movement of persons, items or any other things of security interest to the nearest security location for necessary action”.
“The Division wishes to assure all law abiding citizens of Nigeria in the South East Zone of the safety of their lives and property devoid of the form of harassment or molestation before, during and after the yuletide, New Year and the oncoming General Elections”.
Recall that the chief of Nigerian Army Staff, Tukur Buratai in November this year during chief of army staff annual conference said the army along with other security agencies will partake in 2019 election processes, noting that the army personnel must remain apolitical and responsive while carrying out their supportive responsibilities to civil authorities.
