AS ENUGU SIXTH ASSEMBLY WIND UP- Paul Nnajiofor
In line with the saying that whatever has a beginning will have an end, the 6th Enugu State House of Assembly will on the 27th of this month.
The 6th Assembly under the leadership of Right Honourable Edward Uchenna Ubosi as the speaker was inaugurated on June 8, 2015.
The 24-Member House unarguably has made enormous positive impact in the anal of law-making, quality representation and oversight functions.
From June 2015 till date, the House has received a staggering number of 50 bills out of which 38 came from the executive, while 12 are private member bills.
Out of the number, the 6th Enugu State House of Assembly successfully passed 37 executive and six private member bills, while 6 are outstanding and one stepped down.
The people-oriented bills passed by the House include; Enugu State Civil Service Commission amendment bill, Enugu State Investment and Human Development Authority bill, Enugu State Child Rights Bill, Enugu State Agency for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non Formal Education Amendment bill as well as the Enugu State Administration of Criminal Justice Amendment bill.
There was also the Enugu State Land use charge Amendment Bill, Enugu State Multi-Door Court House Bill, Enugu State Debt Management bill, Enugu State violence against person’s prohibition bill, Enugu State Fiscal Responsibility Law, among others and recently the ESUT multi-Campus Bill 2019.
The Sixth Enugu State House of Assembly equally passed 25 motions within its span of which seven were of urgent public importance and 18 motions on notice.
The motions on matters of urgent public importance include declaration of State of Emergency on all Federal Roads in Enugu State and Environs, condemnation of deliberate and unprovoked massacre of some people of Nimbo community, order for immediate rehabilitation of Akanu Ibiam International Airport by the federal Government.
Motion on save people of Enugu state from the agony of inflated Bills by EEDC and the motion on the ban against indiscriminate pasting of posters in the State Bus stop.
To say the least, the 24 member, 6th Enugu State House of Assembly deserves to be celebrated in grand style for its outstanding contribution towards good governance in Enugu State between June 2015 and now.
This is why a special valedictory session of the House has been scheduled to take place on Monday [27/5/2019] beginning at ten o’ clock in the morning. It is expected that the Governor of Enugu State will be the Special Guest and Chief Augustine Nnamani as the guest of honour.
The event will feature special prayer to thank God for His mercies and keeping them alive will also enable them to support and cooperation including members of the house between 1999and 2015.
In the words of the leader of the House, Rt. Hon Ikechukwu Ezeugwu the valedictory session is to end the 6th Assembly on a good note with a sense of gratitude to those who elected and supported them and send forth for all the outgoing members, staff etc.
It is indeed kudos to the 6th Enugu State House of Assembly as all is well that ends well.
