As part of its avowed commitment to ensure safe driving during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, the Enugu state ministry of transport on Monday embarked on ember month’s campaign with the theme drive to stay safe.
the sensitisation rally which was led by the Ministry of Transport Commissioner, Mathias Ekweremadu started from ministry of transport’s office in independence layout and moved through ESBS Bus Stop, Timber Market Road, Kenyatta Road, Uwani Road; Zik Avenue; Holy Ghost Axis; Okpara Avenue, Abakaliki Road and Basilla road and back to the ministry’s headquarters .
Speaking shortly after the rally, permanent secretary in the ministry, ogbonna idike assured motorists and other road users of free flow of traffic before, during and after the forthcoming yuletide.
Idike said that the sensitisation was meant to carry stakeholders along on the state government plan on “zero delay on roads’’ in the state this yuletide.
He said that the sensitisation also focused on advising motorists obstructing traffic or parking wrongly to desist from such acts.
The permanent secretary also warned that there will be serious enforcement action against those trading along the roads.
He assured that the ministry would be working with other traffic and law enforcement agencies not just to keep traffic flowing but ensure that motorists and travellers are safe and secured while on the roads.
Officials of the ministry distributed fliers containing various road safety messages and tips to members of the public and road users during the rally.
