Enugu Govt bans beauty pageants, cultural festivals, to prosecute offenders

The Enugu State Government has warned against unauthorized organization of beauty pageants in the state.

The state government also bans hosting of all forms of awards and well as cultural festivals.

A statement signed by state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Ugonna Ibe and made available to Enugu Daily News said the Ministry of Tourism which is the highest body in the state to regulate such activities will not hesitate to invoke relevant laws in case of default.

The statement reads:

“The attention of Enugu state government through the ministry of culture and tourism has been drawn to the incessant and rampant organization of all forms of beauty pageants, awards, and other cultural events being carried out in the state without recourse to the ministry which is the apex organization for the administration of tourism in the state”.

“Consequent upon this, directive is thereby issued that any individual or corporate organization wishing to organize any form of events as stated above must as a matter of compulsion approach the ministry’s event bureau unit, permanent secretary’s office for clarification and further guidance.

“Let it be clearly stated that the ministry of culture and tourism will not hesitate to invoke and apply all the extant laws in the state to enforce compliance on this directive by defaulters; including prosecution”.
