Enugu Govt Moves to End Quackery in Medical Profession
The Commissioner for Health in Enugu State, Prof. Anthony Ugochukwu has decried increasing rate of quackery in the medical profession and reiterated his commitment to fight the ugly trend to restore the dignity of the profession and save more lives.
Prof. Ugochukwu stated this during a meeting in his office with the Nigerian Medical Association Enugu State Chapter and the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientist of Nigeria Enugu State Chapter.
He maintained that medical profession is a calling and remained one of the most important career that should not be toiled with and called for holistic approach towards not only exposing the offenders but to ensure that those found guilty regarding the standard practice as well as quacks in the profession are prosecuted.
The Commissioner lamented on the various reports of incidences of irregularities in the private sector due to quacks and resolved to carry out a drive with the Ministry’s Team in conjunction with the Nigeria Medical Association and the Association of medical Laboratory Scientist of Nigeria Enugu chapter to seal any Facility that is operating below standard on the offences of non-registration, non-renewal of registration and the use of unqualified staff/ quacks which attracts fine.
