Enugu govt warns ESTMA officials against extortion

The Enugu state ministry of transport has restated its readiness to fight any act of misconduct among the officers of Enugu State Traffic Management Authority, ESTMA.

The Permanent Secretary Ministry, Sir Ogbonna Idike made the statement while addressing the officers of the agency on Thursday

Sir Idike who frowned at the careless activities of some of the officers made it clear that the ministry will not condone any act of indiscipline, extortion of the public from the officers.

This is as a result of an officer of ministry who has faced the disciplinary committee of the ministry for taking bribe from a motorist.

The permanent secretary said that the disciplinary committee recommended six months suspension without pay for Mr Joseph Ozoekwu for taking bribe from a motorist who committed traffic offence.

He further said that the punishment was to serve as a deterrent to others who may want to indulge in the same act.

The permanent secretary at this junction pleads with the road users to always feel free to report authentic act of misconduct by the officers to the ministry and at the same time ensure strict compliance to traffic rules and regulations especially this Christmas season.

Also, the Enugu State House Committee on transport, Hon. Hillary Ugwu presented 320 reflective jackets to the ministry as tool to assist them this Christmas period in the control of traffic.

While presenting the jackets, Hon. Ugwu commended the permanent secretary of the ministry for his tireless efforts in ensuring that traffic congestion is reduced to a great extent in the state and also told the officers of ESTMA to reciprocate the love the executive governor of the state has shown them.
