FIRE OUTBREAKS: Enugu Fire Service holds sensitisation walk
With frequent outbreaks and the increasing need to mitigate impacts of such disaster, the Enugu state fire service has commenced sensitization and training for residents in the state.
The enlightenment and sensitization walk kicked off with training for officers and their families at the 3 squadron, Police Mobile Force on fire fighting techniques and ways to avoid five outbreaks.
The Zonal Commanding Officer, Nsukka Fire Station, Obinna Omebi during a presentation advised residents to raise alarm in case of fire outbreak, as well as leave the building to a muster points and call attention of fire service.
He identified carelessness, arson and natural occurrence as major causes of fire outbreaks.
The squadron commander, 3 Police Mobile Force, Assistant Commissioner Of Police, ILiya Dauda said the training came at the right time as it has equipped officers and their families with the right information on how to prevent firebreaks in their environment.
He appreciated the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the donation of 16 fire extinguishers to 3 police mobile force.
The sensitization train departed MOPOL 3, through Mayor Market, Agbani Road, Ziks Avenue, through Ogui Road and terminated at fire service station.
Addressing newsmen shortly after the road walk, the state chief fire officer, Okwudili Ohaa said the awareness campaign part of the service sensitization programme to inform, educate and enlighten the residents of the state metropolis on the best measures to prevent fire incidences, precautionary measures to take at any point of fire outbreak and the vital need to contact the state fire service in time.
He disclosed that as part of efforts to improve the efficiency of fire officers, the government has provided 5 new fire fighting trucks and has given approval for purchase of rapid response vehicles.
“For the fact that every fire incidence is like accident which no one knows when and where it will occur, the Enugu state fire service in the past few years have been able to train additional manpower to man our various fire stations and the equipment”.
“The latest in the series of our man power training is a total number of fire fighting officers, which just passed out, awaiting their deployment to various stations”.
“Like you know, with great support of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi , the state fire service under my watch has been able to establish functioning operational bases, one each of the three senatorial districts of the state, in as much as the state headquarters is very fortified”.
The national emergency management agency and the federal fire service were part of the fire safety awareness campaign.
