A group of young people in Isu Awaa Community in Enugu state have called on the state government to take proactive measures to ensure the safety of lives and properties within the community.
The group led by Onyedika Aniorji while expressing the grief of the indigenes said the community ‘live in fear of the herdsmen in their own land’
Aniorji, who asserted that the community have suffered several attacks with severe injuries as well as loss of crops and properties described the recent kidnap of two indigenes of the community, Emmanuel and Enyeribe Anikwe by the herdsmen as the height of it all.
He said, “our people are now afraid to go to the farm or stream all because of these herdsmen. We cannot continue to live like this. We will die of hunger or thirst. we cannot sit and watch our people being hurt and made to live in fear. We therefore call on Enugu state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to come to our rescue.”
It would be recalled that the Secretary of the Uzo Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nnamdi Ogueche was shot dead by suspected herdsmen while returning from a peace talk between communities and the herdsmen barely 2 months ago.
