The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has applauded Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the maturity and peace his style of leadership brought to the political polity of Enugu State.
The National Vice President of NANS, Mr Chidi Ilogebe, gave the commendation while speaking with newsmen in Enugu on Sunday.
Ilogube spoke on the sidelines of political movements and groups in the state either handing over or collapsing their age-long political structure to that of the governor, locally called “Gburugburuism Movement’’.
He noted that the governor had involved a political leadership and style that seeks to ensure everyone was given fair hearing, attention and equal chance of participation in governance.
According to him, Ugwuanyi’s pursuit for peace and understanding to everyone and group even to the opposition party, if there is any in the state anyway, stands him out as a leader with a large heart of gold.
“For the past five years as governor, and several years as a National Assembly member, Gov. Ugwuanyi has continued to preach and pursue politics of peace and people-oriented development,’’ he said.
Ilogebe, who is the Special Assistant to the Governor on Students’ Matter, said that for the first time all the previous and present leaders in the state had come together to align with an incumbent governor notwithstanding political affiliations and philosophy.
“This type of feat will not be possible without the beautiful efforts and political leadership style of the most peaceful and peace-loving governor in the country, Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
“Ugwuanyi has done well in bringing all these diverse people and political colouration together to move the state forward in terms of socio-economic and infrastructure development.
“And I believe this is a turn-around for Enugu State meant to promote development and progress in every ramification of the state,’’ he said.
The NANS leader urged youths to learn from Ugwuanyi’s political style and shun all forms of bickering and segregation but “they should know is all about political interest and delivering political dividends to the people’’.
“Young Nigerians should come together and chart away forward for themselves as well as the upcoming generations.
“Knowing that it is better to close ranks and work in unison to achieve the greater `common good’ for everybody in the society.
“Youths in Enugu State should know that peaceful disposition and dialogue remain the best way to handle issues and that is one thing that Gov. Ugwuanyi is doing perfectly well,’’ he added.
It was gathered that before now, the former state legislatures association, former chairmen and councillors, Great G-17 and other diverse political groups and movements had declared and handed over their machineries and structures to Ugwuanyi’s Gburugburuism Movement.
While some hours ago, Sen. Chimaroke Nnamani, formal Governor of Enugu State, handed over his great `Ebeano Movement/Political Dynasty’ to Gov. Ugwuanyi.
