NIDCOM, Envoy, others condemn killing of Nigerian in Italy

The Nigerian Ambassador to Italy, Mfawa Abam, Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, Dabiri-Erewa, as well as the Nigerian community in Italy, have demanded a full investigation into the killing of a Nigerian housewife, Rita Amenze, by her estranged husband, Pierangelo Pellizzar, last Friday.

Pellizzar, 61, allegedly shot dead his 31-year-old Nigerian wife in Italy for filing for divorce a week after she returned from Nigeria.

It was gathered that the deceased arrived in Italy in 2017 through Libya and got married to the Italian man in 2018.

Rita was shot dead in front of her colleagues in the parking lot of Mf Mushroom, a company where she worked on Friday morning, in Noventa Vicentina.

The suspect was said to have waylaid his estranged wife at about 7:30 am and shot her four times until she passed out.

After killing her, the Italian reportedly escaped from the crime scene riding a grey Cherokee Jeep which was later found abandoned at his brother’s house.

Giving an update on the sad event, Dabiri-Erewa stated that Pellizzar has been arrested.

In a statement in Abuja on Sunday, titled, ‘Envoy, NIDCOM, Nigerian community condemn killing of Nigerian in Italy, calls for justice,’ Dabiri-Erewa said that the alleged killing of the housewife by her husband because she filed for divorce was quite unfortunate.

Similarly, the President of the National Union of Nigerian Associations in Italy, Mr Rowland Ndukuba also condemned the killing and thanked the police authorities for the arrest of the suspect.

“The Nigerian Ambassador, Mfawa Omini Abam, who has been informed about the pathetic death of the Nigerian, has promised that the Embassy will ensure that proper investigation is carried out,” the statement said.
