The Enugu state Police Command has arrested officers caught in video manhandling a civilian.
Briefing journalists in his office on Monday, Commissioner of Police Enugu State command, CP Ahmed Abdurrahman said the Inspector General of Police and the entire police formation were disturbed by the video which went viral on social media.
Abdurrahman assured the public that the command will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the officers that was caught on camera assaulting a “harmless and armless” citizen faces adequate sanction.
According to him, “the IGP ordered immediate study of the video and identify the officers involved and he I quickly sent out a surveillance team which identified them within a twinkle of an eye.
“The officers involved are 2 Non-Commissioned Officers and a Constable.”
Abdurrahman said a panel that will investigate their actions has been constituted adding that the outcome of the investigation will form the basis for their trial in accordance with the rules of the force.
“The officers are going to be investigated because I have instituted the panel today and we await their recommendation. The panel has three days to submit their findings” he said.
He enjoined the public to continue to keep faith with the Police under the able leadership of the IG, Mohammed Adamu.
“The public should have faith with the indefatigable Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu, as he is a leader who doesn’t only stop at providing security for the lives and properties of Nigerians from criminals but also, protects the citizens from the excesses of some officers.
“The police force under the IG doesn’t cover any erring officer(s) who will be high-handed to any citizen.”
