Police in Enugu step up effort to rescue kidnapped Catholic Priest

The Police Command in Enugu State says it has activated mechanism to free abducted Catholic Priest, Rev.-Fr. Malachy Asadu, serving under the Nsukka Catholic Diocese in Enugu State.

Asadu was believed to have been abducted on Monday; however, some Catholic faithful said that spotted him last at the Catholic Christ the King Celebration held on Sunday in Nsukka.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the abduction of the Father to newsmen on Tuesday in Enugu.

Amaraizu said that the Command was on the trail of the abductors, adding that the aim was to release the Father unhurt and reunite him with the Diocese.

“We have the report and the command has commenced necessary action with a view to getting him released unhurt.

“The Command will surely unmasking the perpetrators of this evil act,’’ he added.

The police spokesman, however, did not give further details on where in Nsukka and how the incident took place.
