External Examiner, JAMB, Prof Anieke assures successful conduct
The Chief External Examiner, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, Professor Christian Anieke says measures have been put in place to ensure a hitch-free 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Professor Anieke stated this on Wednesday while speaking on preparations ahead of the commencement of the examination.
Professor Anieke who is also the Vice-Chancellor, Godfrey Okoye University, said the scheduled date of this year’s UTME remains sacrosanct and charged candidates sitting for the examination to study recommended materials so as to come out successfully.
“Everything is in place to make sure we have a smooth exam. My role as a Chief External Examiner is simply an overseer, to make sure the exams are properly conducted, the centres are okay, and no form of cheating”.
According to the JAMB Chief External Examiner, the introduction of Computer-Based-Test has reduced incidences of examination malpractices.
“You can’t manipulate the system. You are on your own. The questions are before you. And you are not answering the same questions as somebody very close to you. So, it’s difficult to manipulate”.
The Chief External Examiner disclosed that JAMB has currently accredited over 24 CBT Centres and in the process of accrediting more adding that availability of electricity supply is one the major criteria for approving CBT centres.
“Many CBT centers are do very well. So far so good. In the past we never had big issues and I don’t think we will have issues now. But before we actually accredit centres, the source of power electricity will be actually checked to make sure that you don’t have outage, when the students are writing the exams”.
The JAMB Chief External Examiner, Professor Anieke also charged parents and guardians to encourage their children and ward to study well so as not to perform woefully in the examination.
“Let them encourage their children to work hard because I think working hard is the only way you can pass an examination. Impersonation can be killing, because many will try to impersonate but if caught, the parents of course will be humiliated.
