Barely five days to Christmas, there have been slight increase in the prices of goods and services in major markets in Enugu metropolis.
A visit to some major markets in the town by esbs business desk on Thursday shows that both livestock and foodstuff have witnessed the increment.
At the New Artisan Livestock Market, a live goat formerly sold between 15,000 to 30,000 naira is now sold between 20,000 to 50,000, while cattle rose between 150,000 to 200,000 naira depending on the size.
Speaking with EnuguDaily correspondent, Chairman, Nigeria Cattle Sellers Association, Enugu State Chapter, Alhaji Ibrahim Yaro, decried low patronage of customers and attributed it to economic hardship in the country.
A buyer of goat at the same market, Chibuzor Onyeneze expressed dissatisfaction over increment on the price of goat.
He stated that the size of goat he bought for forty thousand naira was formerly sold at twenty five thousand naira.
At Ogbete Main Market Enugu, a bag of rice is sold between 15,000 to 20,000 depending on the size and specie of the rice, while that of beans is sold between 18,000 to 20,000 naira.
Also at Akwata market, a bag of fresh tomato goes between 4500 to 6,000 Naira depending on the specie.
